Firstly, I was alerted that I didn’t have a link for the video of Jonas Kaufmann singing “Nessun Dorma.” Here it is! Worth a listen.
Secondly, we had a first two rehearsals for the opera yesterday and as it turns out, there was some flooding at the theater and the damage was extensive enough that the orchestra cannot use the pit. Instead they managed to fit all of us at the very back of the stage behind the singers. They will use a scrim (a cloth screen) as the backdrop which will make it so the audience can’t see us but will still be able to hear us. Different spot than I’m used to, but still cramped, still fun, and still great music :)
